Public Speaking & Presence Coaching for Politicians & Public Figures
Human Skills for the AI Era™: Speech, Debate Preparation, Stage Presence, and Authentic Communication Training for Political Leaders at Every Level
Vox Vera® is a presence and public speaking skills consultancy serving candidates, leaders, and elected officials from city council to the U.S. Congress. Founded by Paul Marchegiani — a Berkeley and Stanford Law School lecturer, former BigLaw litigator, and the only U.S. attorney certified as a Patsy Rodenburg Associate — Vox Vera provides confidential coaching in public speaking, debate preparation, stage presence, media authenticity, and charisma development for political leaders and the teams who prepare them. The firm works with clients nationwide, with primary operations in Los Angeles and New York.
Why Stage Presence and Authentic Communication Now Define Political Careers
Town halls. Debates. Media interviews. Crisis moments. The moments that define a political career have always demanded more than talking points — they demand a human being who is fully present, genuinely connected, and able to carry their voice under real pressure.
That demand has sharpened. Voters have developed a finely tuned instinct for whether a candidate is actually there — whether the words arriving across a debate stage or a town hall microphone feel like they belong to a thinking, present human being, or to a carefully managed performance. It's not a skill political leaders have historically practiced, but it's a necessary response to a media landscape so saturated with polished, algorithmically optimized communication that authenticity has become the scarcest — but most effective — signal in politics.
What cuts through isn't better messaging content; it's the human signal underneath it — the voice, the breath, the physical presence, the capacity to stay genuinely with the room when the stakes are highest. Voters respond to it viscerally, even when they cannot name what they are sensing. Cameras expose its absence in real time. And no amount of preparation at the level of message addresses it, because it does not live at the level of message.
It lives in the body. And it can be trained.
Vox Vera builds that capacity — with the rigor of conservatory-level performance craft, the precision of a litigator who has held rooms under adversarial pressure, and the discretion that political work demands.
Debate Preparation & Media Authenticity Training for Political Candidates
Conventional debate preparation focuses on message discipline, anticipated questions, and opposition research. That work is necessary. What it cannot do is prepare a candidate for the physical and neurological reality of standing at a podium under live adversarial pressure — with cameras, a hostile opponent, a moderator, and a room full of voters deciding in real time whether to trust them. Or for the moment a Sunday show host pivots off-script, a press conference question lands sideways, or a town hall exchange goes somewhere no briefing anticipated.
Under that kind of pressure, the body shifts before the mind catches up. Breath tightens. Voice narrows. Timing accelerates. A candidate can know exactly what they want to say and still fail to deliver it in a way that lands — because the instrument producing the speech has not been trained for those conditions. The camera makes this visible in ways a room sometimes doesn't. It does not forgive the small contraction that happens when a candidate moves into managed mode — the slight tightening of the voice, the shift from genuine presence to careful performance. Viewers register it as a feeling rather than an observation. But it registers, and it accumulates.
Our debate preparation and media authenticity coaching works at that level, pressure-testing not just response framing, but the physical and vocal delivery that determines whether those responses register as conviction or as performance. We train candidates to hold their ground under attack without contracting, to land a point with authority rather than aggression, to stay connected to the interviewer rather than retreating into talking points, and to hold unexpected questions without losing the thread or the opportunity of the moment.
For leaders navigating high-profile moments — a major debate, a Sunday show, a crisis statement that will be dissected in real time, a viral town hall exchange — this preparation can be the difference between a moment that builds trust and one that leaks credibility.
Political candidates from state legislative races to congressional campaigns work with us in the weeks before debates and media events, often alongside their existing political teams. We are not a replacement for the message operation; we're the coaches that help that great message land.
Stage Presence and Charisma Coaching for Candidates and Elected Officials
Stage presence is not a personality trait. It is not the gregarious extroversion of the natural performer who fills a room by volume. It is a trainable physical capacity — the ability to be fully present in one's body, to make genuine contact with an audience, and to carry language in a way that creates credibility rather than merely conveying information.
Charisma, properly understood, is what happens when a leader's conviction and their physical delivery are fully aligned — when what they believe and how they sound are the same thing. Voters register the gap between the two immediately, even when they cannot articulate what they are sensing. They call it inauthenticity. They call it being overmanaged. They call it politician voice. What they are detecting is a mismatch between the person and the performance.
Our stage presence and charisma coaching for political candidates develops alignment between conviction and delivery. The work is physical — breath, voice, posture, spatial awareness, eye contact, timing — and it is integrated. Clients do not acquire a set of techniques to apply consciously under pressure. They build a capacity that becomes available automatically, precisely when they need it most: in the unscripted exchange, the hostile question, the moment the room shifts.
Elected officials preparing for high-visibility moments — Senate hearings, gubernatorial debates, congressional town halls, national media appearances — work with us to develop and sustain this capacity over time. Candidates preparing for their first major race work with us to build it from the ground up.
Who We Work With — From City Council to Congress, Nationwide
Vox Vera works with political leaders at every level of public life: city council members, state legislators, district attorneys, mayors, governors, members of Congress, and candidates at every stage of that continuum. We also work with the campaign managers, communications directors, chiefs of staff, and political consultants who prepare them.
Our clients don't lack intelligence, vision, or conviction, but like most modern leaders, they need help making their message and story fully and consistently available to the room. That's not through any fault of their own; it's just that their system that produces speech under pressure hasn't been trained to the same level as the ideas it is meant to convey. That gap is specific, visible, and closeable.
We work nationwide. Primary operations are in Los Angeles and New York, with engagements available in person and virtually. For the highest-stakes moments — major debates, convention appearances, confirmation hearings — we travel.
Every engagement is confidential. We do not discuss our client list, publicly associate with campaigns, or position ourselves as political strategists. We are performance coaches who work in political environments, and we hold that distinction with care.
Our Approach — Performance Craft as Political Preparation
Vox Vera's methodology draws on craft-based performance training traditions used to prepare trial advocates, opera singers, actors, and world leaders — traditions that long predate conventional media training and executive presence coaching, and that are now supported by neuroscience research on how audiences register credibility, trust, and emotional coherence in real time.
The work is physical and integrated. Clients develop voice, breath, physical alignment, language, and spatial awareness as a unified system — so that communication under pressure remains responsive, fully human, and genuinely connected rather than contracted, managed, or performed. Our proprietary frameworks, the Performance Ladder™ and the Presence Ladder™, provide a structured development path that applies equally across debate preparation, town halls, hearings, media appearances, and the unscripted moments no amount of briefing anticipates.
This is not media training in the conventional sense: media training teaches what to say; we develop the capacity to say it and frame it to meet the moment with an audience — with the voice, composure, and physical presence that determine whether a message lands or dissolves in the room it enters.
Confidential Coaching & Training — What We Offer
Every engagement is held in strict confidence. We create a safe, judgment-free space because the work requires a leader to be genuinely unguarded — something not possible without both freedom and discretion.
Debate Preparation & Strategy — Targeted rehearsal under realistic adversarial conditions. Land points with conviction, navigate attacks without contracting, and hold the room through the moments that swing outcomes.
Public Speaking & Stage Presence — Build the physical and vocal capacity for genuine presence at a podium, in a town hall, or on a major stage. For candidates at every level, from first campaign to congressional run.
Media Authenticity & On-Camera Training — Be genuinely present and credible on television, podcast, and press — not merely comfortable. For candidates, elected officials, and spokespeople navigating consequential media moments.
Town Hall & Live Audience Work — Read a dynamic room in real time. Connect with skeptical or hostile audiences. Reset when things go sideways. Stay genuinely with people rather than managing them from a distance.
Extemporaneous Speaking & Real-Time Responsiveness — Get out of your head. Respond as yourself, in real time, in any environment, without losing your conviction, your thread, or the room.
Paul Marchegiani & the Vox Vera Team
Paul Marchegiani founded Vox Vera after a career spent in the rooms leaders are preparing to enter.
He practiced as a BigLaw litigator at two of the country's most selective firms, where he learned what it takes to hold a room under adversarial pressure — in front of judges, business leaders, and opposing counsel whose job is to find the gap between what you know and how you deliver it. He then spent fifteen years as an executive at major entertainment studios — Warner Bros., NBCUniversal, Miramax, and Amazon — where the 1,000+ deals he closed turned on negotiation, relationship, and the credibility of the human being across the table. He developed a precise and lived understanding of how trust is built in real time, face to face, and what happens when it isn't.
He is also a classically-trained performer who has appeared with LA Opera, the San Francisco Symphony, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Ensemble Shakespeare Company in New York — and is the only U.S. lawyer certified as a Patsy Rodenburg Associate, a lineage of voice and presence training rooted in one of the world's most respected performance traditions.
That convergence — law, high-stakes negotiation, and conservatory-level performance craft — is what distinguishes Vox Vera from conventional political communication coaches, media trainers, and executive presence consultants. Paul doesn't teach abstract techniques adapted from other contexts; he has worked, in depth, in the environments his clients are preparing to enter.
He now teaches public speaking and communication at Stanford Law School and UC Berkeley, where his courses consistently generate substantial waitlists. His writing on presence, communication, and leadership has appeared in Law.com, the NALP Bulletin, ABA Syllabus, and the Daily Journal.
Vox Vera's associate coaches hold the same standard: performance-trained stage and media professionals with lived experience in high-pressure arenas of all sizes. Peers who understand the rooms you are preparing to enter and who know how to coach you to get to the highest level.
Voters need your voice now more than ever.
We work with political candidates, public figures, and elected officials at every level — from city council to Congress — as well as the campaign managers, communications directors, and consultants who prepare them. Engagements are confidential, tailored to the specific moments you are facing, and built around the actual conditions of political performance rather than a generic coaching methodology borrowed from another world.
Whether you're preparing for a single high-stakes debate, a media rollout, or a sustained development practice across a full campaign cycle, the work begins with a conversation.
